Coming from the best music academies, the members of the Quintetto Papageno pride themselves today on their extensive experience with major European orchestras and regular cooperation with the best known personalities in today’s music panorama. The members of the Quintetto met while playing with two orchestras established by Claudio Abbado: the Orchestra Mozart and the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra. Their stimulating shared experience in an environment of such striking excellence led them to establish this ensemble which made its debut at the Bologna Festival in 2005. Since then, the Quintetto has performed in Italy and elsewhere in Europe for prestigious organizations and festivals, including the Società del Quartetto in Milan, Lingotto Musica, Accademia Filarmonica di Bologna, Festival Internazionale di Portogruaro, Festival “Artes no Camiño” at Santiago de Campostela, to name just a few. In 2014 the Quintetto Papageno made its recording debut with an extremely rare presentation of Ottorino Respighi’s Quintetto in sol minore, in addition to the Carl Nielsen and Paul Taffanel Quintets. Currently they are recording the complete collection of Woodwind quintets by Franz Danzi. The Quintetto Papageno has always aimed to reach out to distant, diverse cultures, conscious of the rich heritage music offers beyond the written notes. They work with the French/Palestine association “Al Kamandjati” to bring music to refugee camps in Palestine and Lebanon, and play participate in an integration project on the Island of Lampedusa.
