R. STRAUSS, Der Rosenkavalier With projection of the silent film ‘Der Rosenkavalier’ by Robert Wiene (1925)
Richard Strauss’s well-known opera Der Rosenkavalier is one of the lyric masterpieces of the early 20th century, and met with immediate favor from the critics and public. Fifteen years later the composer reworked the score for symphony orchestra, so it could be used in cinema productions. Robert Wiene, a director already known for his film The cabinet of Dr. Caligari, was given the task, with screenplay by Hugo von Hofmannstahl. The amazing result – music and film – is on stage today, thanks to l’Orchestra Verdi conducted by Frank Strobel, who also adapted Strauss’s score.
