Lilac for People, a production by the singer and composer Francesca Gaza, uses a modern ensemble with its roots in jazz, but nourished on pop and electronics to create an original, dreamy chamberjazz-pop. The compositions represent dense sound trips described by Francesca, backed by a variegated, changing group of musicians, where brass, drum-skins and strings are subtly manipulated electronically. This invention is inspired by proudly cross-over female figures, whose true gender it is impossible to label, embracing an all-round idea of contemporary music, respectful of the past while launching themselves into the future.
Francesca Gaza started what she calls a project in early 2017 with seven friends and study-mates, and soon attracted the attention of specialized critics (All About Jazz and Downbeat). In July 2017 her project came first in the national composition contest run by MIDJ (Musicisti Italiani di Jazz) – Italian jazz musicians). Then in May 2018 she was awarded the first prize in JazzAlguer Mediterrani, directed by Paolo Fresu.
