Arnold Schönberg is unquestionably one of the instigators of the 20th century musical revolution set in motion by the Second Viennese School. Pierrot lunaire is based on 21 poems recited by a female voice (the Sprechgesang, a vocal technique between singing and speaking), with a small group of musicians. Tonight’s concert is accompanied by the projection, for the very first time, of the work by the French graphic designer Massin – a visual translation of the score that he started in 2000. The concert starts with three waltzes by Johann Strauss (junior) arranged by Schönberg, Berg and Webern for chamber orchestra with piano.
