The black and white silent film dated 1928 The fall of the house of Usher, with the French director Jean Epstein, is one of the masterpieces of its time. Based on Edgar Allan Poe’s story, it still enjoys the fame it inspired, thanks to its3 avantgarde filming technique – Buñuel was the assistant producer. The narration is developed by clever scanning of the scenes, between dream-like and mysterious.
Stresa Festival commissioned for the occasion a musical comment for full orchestra by the Spanish composer José María Sánchez-Verdú. The world première is scheduled in Stresa with José Antonio Montaño conducting the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano Giuseppe Verdiwhile the film, from the Cinématèque Française, is showing.
