I. STRAVINSKIJ, Danze concertanti
L.V. BEETHOVEN, Concerto per pianoforte e orchestra n. 2 op. 19
S. PROKOF’EV, Sinfonica n. 1 “Classica”

This evening’s program, opening the second part of the Festival, presents three compositions that should appeal to most of our wide audience. Beethoven’s Concerto for pianoforte and orchestra no. 2, composed when he was not yet 30, has the flavor of the late 1700s, with Mozartian influences, even though it clearly shows the high quality of the composer’s unmistakable style that was to come. Two works from the turn of the last century show off the talent of the Orchestra da Camera di Stoccarda: Prokofiev’s Symphony no. 1 “Classica” and Stravinsky’s Danses concertantes. The Symphony, composed in 1917, masterly blends tradition with modernity, just like the Stravinsky dances, dated 1942 and belonging to his neoclassic period. These consist of a suite for chamber orchestra, with no choreography. The renowned German orchestra will be led by a young Italo-Turkish conductor Nil Venditti, rising fast in her field, accompanied by an outstanding 14-year-old pianist from Moscow, Alexandra Dovgan.
