The Quartetto Alexis Cárdenas is back at the Festival this year with a new program. The four Venezuelan musicians are closely linked to the world of improvisation, jazz, traditional and classical music. With their Latin-American heritage they put their virtuosism to good use interpreting some of South America’s best-known composers – Aldemaro Romero, Egberto Gismonti, Hermeto Pascual and Hamilton de Holanda.
The program ranges from Bach to Paco de Lucia, beside classical composers like Satie, and giants of Latin-American music such as Astor Piazzolla.
The group is led by the virtuoso Venezuelan violinist Alexis Cárdenas but the formation varies depending on what type of music they are playing. Cárdenas is one of the most imprtant violinists of his generation. His untiring curiosity and knowledge of the multiple cultures of the world have given him a unique mastery of his instrument that takes him beyond the barriers between musical languages.
