Encounter with
Giovanni Sollima
In battello all’Eremo di S. Caterina del Sasso.
Giovanni Sollima will meet his public at the’Eremo di Santa Caterina del Sasso to talk about his musical experiences that have brought him such fame as a concert performer and composer, unanimously acknowledged by critics and the public.
The Santa Caterina hermitage dates back to l 1170, when tradition has it that a man called Alberto Besozzi, from Arolo, a merchant and usurer of his times, escaped death when his boat was wrecked while he was crossing the lake. He then made a vote to Saint Catherine of Alexandria to withdraw for the rest of his life in solitude and prayer in a cave on that coast. There he built a chapel to the Saint. The monastic complex dates from between 1300 and 1400 when some noblemen of Ispra built the two churches dedicated to Saint Maria Nova and Saint Nicolao.
The ferry will depart from the Stresa landing stage at 10.15 and return from Santa Caterina at 11.55. Maximum 25 people.
