Giovanni Sollima
Suite per violoncello solo (I)
J. S. BACH
n. 1 in sol magg. BWV 1007
n. 2 in re min. BWV 1008
n. 3 in do magg. BWV 1009
For the cello Bach invented a whole universe of expression out of nothing. He based himself on the traditional suite of dances: allemande, corrente, sarabanda, giga, with a prelude to start with, and a couple of Galanterien (minuets or bourrées or gavottes) slotted between the third and fourth dances. The six suites are played in two evenings. This is a regular feature of the Festival, and is held in the impressive setting of the Chiesa di Madonna di Campagna in Verbania.
Every year the Festival finds a different musician to interpret this masterpiece of Bach and this year we shall hear
Giovanni Sollima, a cellist at the peak of the international ranks. During his career as a soloist he has worked with numerous prestigious partners.
An interesting point is that this is the first time he will play the full version of the Suites, in this exclusive performance for the Festival.
