Antonello Paliotti and Marco Beasley thought up this concert for five instruments and voice, commissioned by Stresa Festival. Seven chapters and seven stations commemorate the Poet a century from his birth: Pasolini and Tradition, Pasolini and Di Giacomo, Pasolini and the Trilogy of Life, Pasolini the prophet, Pasolini and Totò, Pasolini and his story. Then, to end it all, but really only a start, Pasolini and his death. An eighth station, ideally embracing all the others, might be headed Pasolini and music: the music he adored and put to such good use in his films, from Bach to yeh-yeh, to Missa Luba, Neapolitan songs – all in a play of contrasts in which he was the unquestioned Maestro. No other Italian poet has managed to partner Tradition with Rebellion, Anarchy with Marxism, Passion and Ideology so harmoniously. No-one has managed to be so domineeringly modern while at the same time pained for the loss of innocence.
This evening’s pieces are only a small selection but make up a rich and representative testimony.
