O. Latry, Improvisation
The French organist Olivier Latry is considered the foremost ambassador of this instrument. He has played in the world’s most prestigious settings, often as guest artist with famous orchestras under the baton of superb conductors. He has recorded with the best-known labels, and has performed the world premières of an impressive number of works.
Latry was appointed Chief Organist at Notre-Dame in Paris at the age of 23, and emeritus organist of the Orchestre National de Montréal in 2012. Latry is primarily a skilled musician, reflective and adventurous, and likes to explore all the possible fields for organ music. His special talent is improvisation.
Tonight’s program includes three organ works by Johann Sebastian Bach, one by Louis Vierne and two by César Franck – a tribute to the 200th anniversary of the birth of this great Belgian organist and composer. Completing the concert Latry will offer an improvisation of his own, illustrating his wide-ranging musical talent.
