C. DEBUSSY, Sonata per violino e pianoforte; Sonata per violoncello e pianoforte; Sonata per flauto, viola e arpa
I. STRAVINSKIJ, Petrouchka (trascrizione per ensemble di Yuval Shapiro)
This evening’s program offers Debussy’s three Sonatas and a transcription of Petrouchka.
After a long pause, lasting more than 20 years, Claude Debussy started composing chamber music once more, between 1915 and 1917 – the year before his death. He left uncompleted a series of 6 Sonatas for various instruments. Composed in the dark years of the World War, they cannot really be classified as ‘“impressionism” – the term usually employed to describe this French master’s style.
Very popular among the top soloists of the instruments involved, these masterpieces still fascinate whole generations of listeners. As a tribute to Stravinsky we shall have a transcription of his Petrouchka, by the Israeli trumpeter Yuval Shapiro: this will be a first performance in Italy.
The musicians tonight are Lorenza Borrani, Simone Jandl, Ursina Braun, Clara Andrada, Miriam Caldarini, Pietro De Maria, Sivan Magen, an ensemble of affirmed soloists who earned their solid international reputation in prestigious groupings such as Spira Mirabilis and the Chamber Orchestra of Europe.
