Born in Turin in 1993, Simone Rubino studied at the Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi in that city, and later moved to Munich. He won the 2014 ARD competition and received the Crédit Suisse Young Artist Award in 2016. Since then Rubino has constantly attracted an enthusiastic public, playing either solo or with prestigious musicians. He is a regular guest at Festivals like the Lucerne Festival, Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival and La Folle Journée, and has shifted the image of the percussion from the edges to the center of the classical, contemporary and baroque music scenes.
His idea to build a ‘bridge’ linking generations, styles and ideas is central to his creative process, and it takes only a glimpse at his list of records to how this underlies his experimentation – different and audacious
At Stresa he will present a baroque program exploring the many possibilities offered by the music of Bach, Rameau and Vivaldi, played on the marimba, definitely unusual for this sort of repertoire. This is just one of his challenges, which include efforts to bring today’s generations into the concert hall. This young Turinese artiste is determined to tackle the question vigorously.
