Founded in 1997 by Gidon Kremer, the Kremerata Baltica, a winner of the Grammy Award, is considered one of the most important international ensembles in Europe.  Gidon Kremer purposely selects talented young musicians to move beyond simply ‘making music’ in an orchestra.
Listed among the world’s top violinists, Kremer has followed an unconventional career. Born in Riga in Latvia, he studied with David Oistrakh at the Moscow Conservatory (music school), gathering a series of prestigious confirmations.  In the last 50 years he has built up a world-wide reputation as one of the most original and convincing musicians of his generation. He has performed on all the main concert stages, in recitals and with the major European and North American orchestras, with many of the greatest conductors of our time.  
It would be justified to say that no other soloist of the same international standing has done more for contemporary music composers, and new violin music.
Tonight’s program mixes music by Bach, Shostakovic, Pärt and Schubert, with contemporary compositions dedicated to the great Viennese composer.
