SIMONE LOCARNI PROJECT /// ARTIST IN RESIDENCE

This concert introduces the season’s artiste in residence, the young Italian composer and pianist Simone Locarni, who played in Stresa Festival last year. His long list of encouraging international ‘recognitions’ includes the Spoleto Europe Jazz Award (2022), when he was judged the Best European Jazz Talent. He also received a Special Mention from Tomorrow’s Jazz, an award dedicated to young Italian jazz talents, promoted by Veneto Jazz and the Italian Culture Ministry. The 2022 award acknowledged his “composing and improvising approach”. In 2024 he received various acknowledgements in the XXI edition of a national competition in Piacenza, the Concorso nazionale Chicco Bettinardi for Young Italian Jazz Talents, where as a soloist in the category Giovani Talenti del Jazz Italiano he also received the Premio del Pubblico (the Public’s Award). In the 14th European Young Artists’ Jazz Award, organised by the Internationale Jazzwoche Burghausen he took first place as the first ever soloist in the history of the prize. Then there was the critics’ prize, in the 28th Premio Internazionale Massimo Urbani.
This 26-year-old pianist will play together with the saxophonist Javier Girotto and three young jazz players: Michele Sannelli, vibraphone, Enrico Palmieri, double bass, and Antonio Marmora, battery.
