DVOŘÁK
A. DVOŘÁK, Cello Concerto in B minor, Op. 104
A. DVOŘÁK, Symphony No. 7 in D minor, Op. 70
The evening is entirely dedicated to the music of Antonín Dvořák, featuring the celebrated Cello Concerto in B minor, Op. 104 and the Symphony No. 7. The Concerto, completed in 1895 and conducted the following year by the composer himself with Leo Stern as soloist, is one of the most popular works for cello and a must for every great performer of the instrument.
The first part will feature Mario Brunello, internationally renowned cellist and Artistic Director of the Festival, together with the Luzerner Sinfonieorchester conducted by Michael Sanderling. The Lucerne Symphony Orchestra is the oldest in Switzerland, having begun its activity in the 1805/06 season, and has collaborated with some of the greatest artists in music history for over two centuries. Michael Sanderling has been its principal conductor since 2021 and has developed a career that has taken him to perform in the world’s most important concert venues.
After the interval, they will perform the Symphony No. 7, a composition from 1885 whose premiere was conducted in London by Dvořák himself and which established his reputation in Europe not only as a representative of the “national schools,” but as a major figure in the international compositional landscape.
