MIRRORS & NATURE

MIRRORS & NATURE

J. Haydn, Symphony No. 39 in G minor “Tempesta di mare”
F. Say, Yürüyen Kösk (The Moving Mansion)
W. A. Mozart, Overture from La finta giardiniera
D. Shostakovich, Piano Concerto No. 2 in F major Op. 102

To open the second half of the Festival, we welcome the return of the Kammerorchester Basel.
This Swiss chamber ensemble maintains a prestigious residency in Basle with a season of over sixty concerts, while touring globally as a regular guest at international festivals and pre-eminent European venues, including Hamburg’s Elbphilharmonie, the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris, and Vienna’s Theater an der Wien.
At Stresa, the orchestra will be led by Bar Avni, first-prize winner of the 2024 ‘La Maestra’ competition in Paris and, from 2021 to 2024, Principal Conductor of the Bayer Philharmoniker Leverkusen. The programme features Haydn’s Symphony No. 39 and Mozart’s Overture to La finta giardiniera, interspersed with a performance by Fazil Say, the exceptionally gifted pianist and composer who has enthralled global audiences for over three decades.
Say will perform his own composition, Yürüyen Köşk (The Moving Villa), inspired by a famous residence in Yalova, Turkey. In 1930, the villa was moved several metres on the orders of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk to preserve a centuries-old plane tree – a gesture serving as a symbol of Atatürk’s devotion to nature and his progressive outlook, portraying him as a pioneer of environmental stewardship. The evening will draw to a close with a performance of Shostakovich’s Piano Concerto No. 2.
