IRISH TRADITIONAL MUSIC

Martin Hayes is considered one of the most significant talents in the world of traditional Irish music. His sound is unique, he has total mastery of the violin, is familiar with the history of the music and defines its future, all combined with impressive artistic intelligence. Hayes finds inspiration in many types of music, but he is still firmly anchored to the music he grew up with in East County Clare. His ability to place tradition in a broader contemporary context, creating a unique interpretation of Irish music, is internationally recognised for its exquisite musicality and irresistable rhythms. He has contributed original and traditional arrangements for modern dance, the theater, cinema and television and has commissioned, collaborated in and presented first performances of the works of numerous international and Irish composers, with tournées in Australia, America, Europe and China.
At Stresa Festival he will be partnered by the cellist Kate Ellis, artistic director of the Crash Ensemble and cellist in Martin Hayes’ Common Ground Ensemble.
