In the 17th century Naples was considered the capital for music and the home of opera and the commedia dell’arte. The highly regarded Neapolitan music schools turned out excellent musicians and composers, besides the famous ‘castrati’ singers. In a musical visit to the Naples of those times, L’Arpeggiata offers vocal music of the early baroque period, and some popular Neapolitan melodies. Vincenzo Capezzuto’s voice cannot be classified: with its special timbre and extension it is extraordinarily versatile in a range of different types of music. Vincenzo Capezzuto has sung as a soloist in important concert halls and is returning to the Festival after last year’s success as the Evangelist in Bach’s St Matthew Passion.
The ensemble L’Arpeggiata was founded in 2000 by Christina Pluhar, and has won numerous prizes. Ms Pluhar is one of the most innovative musicians on the early music scene, working with exceptional musicians from different musical backgrounds, all specialized in 17th century music. L’Arpeggiata has earned the unanymous approval from critics and the public throughout the world for their unusual, exciting productions.
