NORRLANDS NATIONS KAMMARKÖR
Anton Bruckner 2024 Bicentenary

This evening in the Sant’Ambrogio church in Stresa the 34 members of the Norrlands Nations Kammarkörr choir will sing with their conductor Francesco Acquista. The choir was founded in 1957, with Eric Ericson as its artistic director, as part of an ambitious project called Norrland’s Nation’s Music Activity. Their activity includes instrumental music and they were open to singers and music students from all the classes in Uppsala. In 2019, directed by Francesco Acquista, the choir won the 7th International Anton Bruckner competition, organised by Interkultur, for the categories ‘Mixed Choirs’ and ‘Sacred Music’. They were awarded the Grand Prize in competition with other winners in the same category.  In 2023, in Gangneung, in South Korea, with the same conductor the choir won the title of Champion of World Choir Games, in the category ‘Mixed Chamber Music choirs’.
At Stresa the Choir will present music by various composers, including a tribute to Bruckner’s religious music, marking the 200th anniversary of his birth. This will include three rare compositions, Vexilla regis, Virga Jesse and Os Justi.
As an environmental gesture the Norrlands Nations Kammarkörr will travel to Stresa by train, the long route passing through Sweden.
