The Camerata RCO chamber orchestra groups the first players and members of the prestigious Orchestra of the Royal Concertgebouw, taking its name from the famous concert hall in Amsterdam. The chamber music group was founded when the musicians decided to add chamber music to their lengthy and extensive orchestral music experience. They could then explore the whole range, from Baroque to contemporary compositions.
The evening’s program starts out with Rossini’s Sonate a 4, one of the series of six sonatas. This will be followed by Schubert’s Octet. Rossini wrote the sonatas in 1804, when he was 12 years old –revealing his extraordinary precocious talent. Structured in three parts, the Sonata is in concert form, intertwining lovely original melodies. inspired by the classical Italian model.
Schubert’s Octet in F major for wind and strings is one of the great Viennese composer’s masterpieces, holding a high place in the chamber music repertoire. Composed in 1824 for the Archduke Rudolf, who had asked him specifically to write it ‘exactly like Beethoven’s Seventh’. It clearly expresses the composer’s lyrical and romantic poetic vein.
