Stresa Festival 2020
Midsummer Concerts, 18 – 25 luglio
La gioia dell’incontro, 20 agosto – 5 settembre
Stresa Festival 2020 ci sarà!
The first part of the Festival starts as usual in July with concerts that offer a wide-ranging overview of unusual sounds, which play and intertwine with the language of jazz.
Lake Maggiore and Isola Bella will be the background and will underline the magic of this blend of sounds; the concerts will all be held outdoors on Lungolago La Palazzola.
It starts on Saturday 18th July with Fellini Jazz, a project by Enrico Pieranunzi with his historic trio formed by Luca Bulgarelli on double bass and Mauro Beggio on drums. They will offer the public a reinterpretation in jazz of the soundtracks composed by Nino Rota for the films of the great master on the occasion of the celebrations for the hundred years since his birth.
Sunday 19th July Franco D’Andrea, one of the greatest jazz musicians on the contemporary scene, will propose in Stresa the Intervals project, the result of a deep research and experimentation on sound: in fact, the interval is the minimum element capable of characterizing and orienting the sonority of a piece both from a harmonic and melodic point of view. Franco D’Andrea will be on stage with his octet.
Monday 20th July will be the turn of an original and creative partnership, that of Maria Pia De Vito with the pianist Julian Oliver Mazzariello. Their love for jazz, for the great American songwriters, for improvisation applied to different languages, from Brazilian music to contemporary authors, makes this duo full of surprises. For this concert the program will revolve around De Vito’s latest recording project, Dreamers, which includes a collection of American songs ranging from Paul Simon to David Crosby, from Bob Dylan to Tom Waits and Joni Mitchell.
Wednesday 22nd July Beethoven’s Breakdown, a tribute to a pioneering and revolutionary composer by a bold and original band: the Jazzrausch Bigband. With an average of 120 concerts per year, between Europe, America, Asia and Africa, it is one of the most popular big bands in the world. With its dynamic and huge stage presence (sixteen elements on stage), the band equally reaches the audience of jazz, classical music and electronics, breaking down musical boundaries of all kinds.
Thursday, July 23rd the very young and already award-winning singer and composer Francesca Gaza (considered by Paolo Fresu one of the best performers on the national scene) will propose Lilac for people, her original and dreamy chamber jazz project that contains the suggestions of pop and electronics. Its ensemble, made up of eight elements, proposes real sound journeys, where the story told by Francesca’s voice is supported by the acoustic nature of the brasses, skins and strings.
Friday 24 July Tosca. Singer, actress, eclectic artist with an innate propensity for research and experimentation, Tosca has collaborated with the greatest Italian and international artists, including Ivano Fossati, Nicola Piovani, Ennio Morricone, Chico Buarque. In Stresa Tosca offers Direzione Morabeza, the initial step of a long musical journey. Alongside the pieces best known to its audience, there will be a way to listen and share with the artist her passion for great musical schools from other regions of the planet. In the program we will therefore find original songs together with current reinterpretations of classics from world music, interpreted in different languages.
