La Fonte Musica conducted by Michele Pasotti “invites us” to La sera del Combattimento, a sort of prelude to the concert that same evening in the church of San Leonardo in Pallanza. The program includes some of Claudio Monterverdi’s madrigals senza gesto, accompanied by basso continuo and interlaced with pieces for tiorba by Kapsberger and Piccinini. At the hub of the interpretation of La fonte musica is the idea of ‘going back to the source’ (hence the name, in Italian) to the roots of polyphony,  the sense of the  songs, and the choice of compositions.  The rhetoric and the “grammar” of the music had to be closely deciphered, so as to grasp and translate, with an attitude that is experimental for us today, the creativity, refinement and beauty of early music.
