Yuja Wang and Ravel

The San Francisco Chronicle was enthusiastic about Yuja Wang, saying she is simply the most dazzling pianist, incredibly talented, in today’s concert world, and all you have to do is sit back, listen and admire her art. She has an extraordinary ability that only outstanding musicians can boast – playing several quite different pieces by the same composer. It is rare to hear, in the same evening, two concertos by Ravel, the Concerto in G and the Concerto for the left hand, accompanied by the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, under the baton of the young Tarmo Peltokoski, followed up by Musorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition in Ravel’s sumptuous orchestral arrangement.
Then we turn to the topic of ‘transformation’ of music through re-interpretation and re-composition, like in the opening concert, pairing Vivaldi / Richter.
